June is such a lovely time in Seattle. It’s not too hot and not too rainy, and the weather is so perfect for getting outside and gardening… after work, on the weekends, or an occasional moment in the morning, when the air is fresh and the birds are having breakfast. There’s nothing more pleasing than walking about the garden in the morning with a cup of coffee in one hand and a hose in the other, seeing what’s coming up today and how everyone’s doing.
The radishes are starting to come in…

Time to start eating lots of stirfry and snow peas for dinner!

Any successful project needs an organized, fearless leader. Francis has been leading us to success for years now. Look at those wise eyes. Thank you, Francis!

Francis oversaw some serious planting over the last few weeks. Here are the lower beds, nice and prepped. We were a little sad to tear up some of the crimson clover that wintered over, because it was making the bees so happy. But we have lots of other flowers now for them, so that’s nice.

We planted swiss chard, broccoli raab, beets, carrots, radishes, collards, salad greens and red kuri squash. Most of the seeds are from Territorial Seed Company, except for the broccoli raab, which is from Kitazawa Seed Company, which focuses on Asian vegetable seeds. We’re curious how it turns out. We’re guessing fabulous.

Look at all the flowers for our pollinator friends!

I forget what this flower is called. It gets more interesting by the day.

LOOK AT THIS BEE with her pantlegs full of pollen! This bodes very well for the kiwi harvest this year.

Walnut is a little worried he’ll have to go inside soon. Don’t worry, Walnut! Lots more gardening ahead of us.

It’s so pleasing to map out the garden plan in this little book. I don’t know why. Maybe something about the physical feeling of pencil on paper complements the tangible feeling of hands in the soil.

Very nice! I’m happy to be back in gardening season as well! My snap peas are just ready to pick now. I also tried some purple snap peas that aren’;t ready quite yet … interestingly they have purple flowers … can’t wait to see how they taste! Happy gardening! 🙂
