This rugelach from Smitten Kitchen has it all… nuts and chocolate, raspberry jam, sour cream dough and sugar on top. Plus it’s easy AND healthy. Well, not that last part, but it’s so good it’s worth overlooking that last bit. We first had this rugelach on the magical day that Thanksgiving and Hanukkah collided. These nearly bite-size delights are perfectly sized for handing out as a holiday cookie, so make some for your family and share the rest with your favorite friends.
This bread could not be easier to make. It’s baked in a dutch oven in your oven, which gives it a remarkable crust. And the long rising time and special ingredient of lager give it a great crumb. A perfect loaf to start on Friday evening, and enjoy with Saturday night dinner.
Walnut Stout Bread is a hearty and rustic delight. We love it nearly as much as we love our dog Walnut. Much like his namesake, Walnut is also hearty and rustic (see the photo below for an action photo of him at his rustic best). (Rustic must be the watchword of the day.)
Friday nights should be pizza nights. (And lots of other nights should be pizza nights too.) Right now the garden is overflowing with swiss chard, and we were feeling inventive and in need of some good green leafy vegetables, and so thus was born the swiss chard, red onion and blasted broccoli pizza. It’s pretty darn good, people. And eat the leftovers the next day for lunch. Cold pizza’s so pleasing too.
We did a similar pizza about a month ago, BUT it did not have spinach on it. The spinach mix really seals the deal. And, cooking the spinach down with garlic is a great way to get some extra vegetables, too.
We seriously couldn’t believe how ludicrously easy this bread recipe from Mark Bittman is. And then, the bread turned out ridiculously beautiful AND good. It tastes a little bit like sourdough and a whole lot like delicious. It would be silly to buy bread ever again. If you start this Friday evening after work, you’ll have fresh, hot bread for Saturday dinner.
Maybe you don’t think of broccoli as a pizza topping. Maybe you should reconsider. This super-green pizza is an addicting way to eat your vegetables.
